A spooky strategy game for one or two players, set in a haunted graveyard. Think chess, but the goal is a bubbling cauldron in the middle of the board.

Each side has five pieces: a pumpking, a witch, a ghost, a skeleton and an obelisk. Every piece moves differently, so you'll need to work out how to use their strengths together.

How to win

  • Move your pumpking into the cauldron
  • Capture the other side's pumpking
  • Leave your opponent with no legal moves

The pieces

  • Pumpking: steps one tile in any direction. It's the piece that wins the game, and the one you can't afford to lose.
  • Witch: hops two tiles at a time along diagonals, up to two hops, but anything in her path stops her.
  • Ghost: glides up to three tiles in a straight line and can float over a single piece or gravestone.
  • Skeleton: leaps to any tile exactly two steps away, ignoring everything in between.
  • Obelisk: never captures. It swaps places with any friendly piece anywhere on the board.

Mind the sky

In some games, lightning strikes the board. Tiles light up with a growing warning, and when the bolt lands, anything standing there is destroyed. If it hits a pumpking, that side loses on the spot.
